Restaurant owner says ‘we’re suffering’ as deportation fears hurt business

At Carlos O’Charlies in Highlandtown, owner Carlos Cruz said he has seen fewer customers come in because they fear immigration officials will target them.

“There isn’t much we can do,” Cruz said. “It is affecting businesses because people are not going out like they used to. We’re suffering, but you pray and wait and see what happens.”

Business leaders, including a local union leader and the president of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said they are worried Baltimore’s economy will suffer…
