Johns Hopkins University remains the leading patent recipient in the state of Maryland.

The private research institution obtained 150 patents in 2016, up 17 from last year. The University System of Maryland bumped up to the No. 3 spot on this year’s List of patents obtained in Maryland, receiving 62 patents in 2016.

Bethesda company with device to instantly assess brain injuries lands $16M

BrainScope Co. Inc., which makes a portable device that can quickly assess traumatic brain injuries, has completed a $16 million round of equity financing featuring a new investor.

The Bethesda company said Thursday that DBL Partners joined previous investors Revolution LLC, ZG Ventures and Maryland Venture Fund in the raise.

The financing will fund commercial sales efforts and additional research and development.
