These Maryland companies received the most venture capital funding in 2018

Gaithersburg startup Viela Bio raised more venture capital funding than any other Maryland company last year.

Viela Bio, a clinical stage biotechnology company pioneering and advancing treatments for severe inflammation and autoimmune diseases, raised $282 million in 2018.

MedImmune Inc., the research and development arm of global drug giant AstraZeneca PLC, spun off Viela Bio last year with plans to create 100 jobs within the next three to five years.
